Election 2008

Election 2008

OK.  Here we go.  Today is the day.  Come on Barack… Lets get this done.  And PLEASE, don’t disappoint.  I’m keeping my eye on this Middle-Class America status.  Which is it? 250k, 180k, 200k?  I will admit that I have been a bit biased in my overview of candidates.  Who’s not, though?  At least I can admit it, right?  Well, to be frank, most of what Barack Obama has been stating has been consistent and unfaltering.  He is certainly a representative of consistency.  Quite unlike McCain who has changed strategy, approach, pitch and message.  McCain does NOT represent the majority of the country or what the majority of the country wants.  He represents much of the same as G. Bush.  (Does no one feel that impeachment/war crimes trial in order for the famed Bush?  I sure as hell do.  For if the same scenario occurred in another country, our government/president would certain lead a charge to do just that.) Obama, on the other hand, seems to be on the same page as the majority of the population here.  That majority being “middle class.”  He appears to have a deep and personal understanding of what it means (and is) to be a struggling, dedicated American.  Black or otherwise.  Something that John McCain and his $300k outfit per event wife CERTAINLY do not have even the remotest understanding of.

With that said, the definition of middle class, as defined by the Obama Campaign, has changed several times over the course of the campaign.  I don’t know if the purpose is proactively dynamic sort of evolutionary), simply an active response top a very organic election.  Does the government currently define middle class? And regardless of the answer to any of these, why such a wide range of numbers… from $100k to $250k?  Just last night I saw a new Obama ad and it clearly outlined the Dems definition as anyone making less than $200k per year.  If that holds true, I would take that as an acceptable figure.  And a reasonable one, at that.  If that’s the magic number, please stay with it and please make the policies work.

We (I) are holding you to your words.

Common sense? Who said anything about common sense?

So, I live in Cedar Rapids, IA.  The heartland of the Midwest.  We bring to the world such things as corn, beef, pork, soy products, dairy products, as well as corn syrup and cereal.  Quaker Oats, General Mills, ADM Sweeteners, Cargill, PMX Industries… just to name a few.  We are also a major global communications hub, home to GoDaddy.com,  telemarketing and customer service call centers, mortgage companies, highly ranked education systems.. a nice place to call home.  Until the wrath of nature took us into her grip last week.  All one has to do is turn on any world news program and your here the name of our city called out…

(Time) (CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa) — The Cedar River poured over its banks here Thursday, forcing the evacuation of more than 3,000 homes, causing a railroad bridge to collapse and leaving cars underwater on downtown streets. Officials estimated that 100 blocks were underwater in Cedar Rapids, where several days of preparation could not hold back the rain-swollen river.

(CNN) Water Ebbs in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Other Areas Evacuated…

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — The dark, filthy water that inundated the entire downtown of Iowa’s second-largest city was receding Saturday after forcing 24,000 people to flee, but those who remained were being urged to take draconian measures to avoid overwhelming the city’s only remaining drinking water source.

These are just two out of countless numbers of stories and reports of the serious degree of damage and loss happening in my home town.  It has been estimated at this early stage that Cedar Rapids alone is looking at well over $1Billion in loss and damages.  However, the naive, anti-community super-socials of this area have decided that an event which is known to be extremely over-priced and under-providing for the prices involved, The Barbecue Round- Up, should most certainly continue as planned.  Typically this event is the last in a series that lasts just over a week and leads into the 4th of July festivities.  It has been a staple of downtown Cedar Rapids for many years.  The downtown that is basically gone now.  But hey, lets waste money needed for clean up and rebuilding.  Let’s just waste that on over-charged, less than wonderful grilled food and activities.  And lets put the event in a non-commercial, residential community.  One that has suffered from noise and pollution for over a week now as their neighborhood has been a staging ground for much of the relief efforts going on in this City…

(KCRG) The 21st Annual BBQ Roundup presented by Veridian Credit Union will take place as scheduled, June 26-29, 2008, giving the community an opportunity to come together in compassion and camaraderie. The South Kingston Parking Lot will serve as a temporary home for the festival as clean-up of the original site gets underway.

I’m thinking that putting such frivolous event on hold in order to clean up this disaster and help provide a home to over 20,000 displaced residents is in order here.  Not the 21st Annual “take-everybody’s-money-and-hardly-give-them-anything-in-return-Round-up”  What in the world has happened to common sense?

Breaking Records, Making History

(CNN) — Barack Obama has done what many just a year ago thought was impossible. He took on the most powerful family in Democratic politics and won….. On Tuesday, Obama became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, marking the first time an African-American will head the ticket of a major political party.”

That’s what I’m talkin’ about! This country needs a political shake-up. (And I don’t mean one like what the U.S. government put this country through on 9/11… yeah, I said it….. but that’s a post for another time.) And it’s getting one… on a grand scale. The old school notion that stuffy old (Christian, white) men, who have no idea what is going on out “in the field”, directing this country into a world the way that only they see it, is over. It’s time to retire those “men” and their backwards, old-world, close minded, self serving thinking.

Enter Barack Obama (as well as Hillary Clinton). When the world (OK, the country) was introduced to these two potential candidates, most anyone with a TV, radio, Internet, or a big-mouthed friend or neighbor instantly realized that this election year is absolutely not going to be anything like any previous election year. And unless this country REALLY wants to extend Bush’s term into a third via John McCain, it sure looks like we are about to have the first African-American President in this nations history. Need I even say… it’s about time! This country isn’t primarily old, white, stagnant, and greedy. Quite the opposite: this country is young (2003 US Census Bureau data shows… the median age of a U.S. citizen is 35.7 ), culturally diverse on an unprecedented level,

(The majority of the population of the United States is of European origin, with the largest groups having primary ancestry traceable to the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland; many Americans report multiple ancestries. Major racial and national minority groups include blacks (either of US, African, or Caribbean parentage), Chinese, Filipinos, Japanese, Mexicans, and other Spanish-speaking peoples of the Americas. According to the 2000 Census, it was estimated that whites comprised 75.1% of the US population; Hispanics, 12.5%; blacks or African Americans, 12.3%; Asians and Pacific Islanders, 3.7%; and Native Americans [Amerindians—more commonly known as Indians, Eskimos, and Aleuts], 0.9%)(It is supposed that there are about 150 or more ethnic groups in the United States)

dynamic, fluid, and eager to earn our income (as opposed to practically stealing it and causing global conflict in order to pad our pockets), earn the respect of our peers and neighbors (as opposed to demanding it with absolute zero return on that investment), and earn our rightful place in the fabric and history of this nation. It’s high time that someone who represents the true tone of this nation to lead us.

Keep your eyes open and your ears up. The revolution is being televised! (As well as Multicasted, Webcasted, and Podcasted.)
